He placeth merit in that, that by God’s government and direction (as he affirmeth) man seeketh salvation in things baser and inferior to himself. Unto the which he addeth this afterward; although not in them, yet in God through them he seeketh salvation: which also unadvisedly enough he hath uttered, and not sufficiently considered. The other two causes, to wit, that sacraments were invented and ordained under visible signs for our instruction and exercise, seem not altogether absurd or disagreeing
